Goodreads CSV

What’s in a Goodreads export file

Checked against the official help pages on November 5, 2026.

A Goodreads library export is a CSV with one row per book and 24 columns, including Title, Author, ISBN13, My Rating, Number of Pages, Date Read, Date Added, Bookshelves, Exclusive Shelf, My Review and Read Count. A rating of 0 means “not rated”, ISBNs are wrapped like ="9780…", and only the latest finish date is kept.

Goodreads doesn’t publish an official list. The columns below are the ones in current exports, as listed by Goodreads members in this thread and matching the files Bookwisp’s importer was built against. Exports made before mid-2022 also had Recommended For/By, purchase and condition columns.

Quirks that break imports

Bookwisp’s importer handles all of these, and shows you what it found — books to add, books you already have, rows it couldn’t read — before saving. Want to look at your numbers first? Try Goodreads stats.

Moving from Goodreads?

Bring your whole library over. Free, and you see every book before it’s saved.

Pick the CSV you exported from Goodreads or StoryGraph. Ratings, dates, rereads, shelves and reviews come with it, and books you already have aren’t doubled.

Questions

Why does my Goodreads export show ISBNs like ="9780…"?
Goodreads writes ISBNs as spreadsheet formulas so Excel keeps the leading zeros. A good importer strips the =" and " and reads the digits; empty ISBNs appear as ="".
Why do some books have a rating of 0 in my Goodreads export?
In a Goodreads export, My Rating 0 means you never rated the book. Goodreads has no zero-star rating.
Can I tell which books are in a series from the export?
Yes, from the Title column: series books end with the series name and number in brackets, for example “(The Stormlight Archive, #1)”. There is no separate series column.
